LAST OF THE POLAR BEARS

button drumming, bass, wall of guitars, voice, keys, percussion

Settler Stephen came
To his staff's acclaim
And in all our names
Said, "Hereunder lies
Our faith realized
This place is a gift
Time to open it"
Then he laughed and cracked a Coke
But failed to note
Bears don't understand jokes

"You have been outbidden, polar bear
The company might let you buy a share"

And the news head said:

"Last of the polar bears kills Stephen Harper
Wins Nobel Prize for poetic justice
Shot with a sleeping dart, flown off to Stockholm
Asks, 'Will this get me back my frozen ocean?'"

Stephen's right hand man
As per back-up plan
Cried, "This will not stand
Steve had every right
That bear picked a fight
Markets run themselves
Armies sometimes help
Killers always pay
They get no say
Except if they kill our way"

"You had other options, polar bear
Could be plugging thermal underwear"

And the news loop said:

"Last of the polar bears kills Stephen Harper
Wins Nobel Prize for poetic justice
Shot with a sleeping dart, flown off to Stockholm
Asks, 'Will this get me back my frozen ocean?'"

Stephen's widow replied:
"Frozen ocean denied!
Keep the factories turned on
'Til the bitumen's gone"

"Anywhere else you'd be dead
But here we're far too well-bred
Bear, you got lucky this time
'Cause we're so soft on crime
Though it was cheap theatre
How you ate our great leader"

"As your ocean is blue
You will rot in a zoo
And the tourists will mug
With their national rug"

"In our boundless mercy, polar bear
We won't let someone shoot you from the air"

And the news loop said:

"Last of the polar bears kills Stephen Harper
Wins Nobel Prize for poetic justice
Shot with a sleeping dart, flown off to Stockholm
Asks, 'Will this get me back my frozen ocean?
Will you return to me my only home?'"
